INDYCAR racer Kyffin Simpson today confirmed his entry in the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans with British-based outfit Nielsen Racing, driving the #24 ORECA 07-Gibson in LMP2.
19-year-old Simpson, reigning European Le Mans Series champion and NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver for Chip Ganassi Racing, joins Fabio Scherer and David Heinemeier Hansson for the historic 92nd running of the world’s most famous endurance racing event.
After a record-breaking 2023 season, Kyffin looks to add Le Mans LMP2 class honors to his CV after conquering Sebring, Petit Le Mans, Dubai, and Europe.
Now in its tenth year of competition, Nielsen Racing currently boasts a twin-LMP2 program in ELMS off the back of its championship wins in the Le Mans Cup and Asian Le Mans. In 2022 the team stood in the Le Mans podium after it’s only second entry in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Speaking about the news, Simpson said:
“I’m excited to join Nielsen Racing for my 24H Le Mans debut. I enjoyed getting back into an LMP2 for Daytona, so it’s great to be racing with a successful team to go for a class win at Le Mans. Work begins immediately with some simulator time this week. I can’t wait to join Fabio and David at the track.”
Teammate Fabio Scherer added:
“I am really excited to come back to the place where my career and my life changed. To fight again for victory at Le Mans will be very special. It is great to be back in a competitive car—not just a car—once again. Nielsen Racing has an excellent track record, and I am happy to be driving with David. It was always nice to have him as my teammate. We also welcome Kyffin Simpson from IndyCar, which will be good. The Nielsen car has looked strong this year and was up there last year at Le Mans, so it should be a strong package to enable me to challenge for the top spot and defend my win from last year.”
Fans can follow Kyffin’s progress via Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and Threads.
